In New World there is no class system per se, but to configure the different aspects of your character you have to depend on the equipment and weapons, as in the case of tanks. As you can imagine, there are weapons that are better for endurance, while others are made to do damage.

Attributes and equipment
The only attribute you’re interested in is constitution. Basically, you will want to have as much health as possible, as well as get some interesting things to tank, such as more healing potions, more armor and health, and increased damage reduction.
When it comes to armor, always look for heavy armor pieces that give you elemental and physical resistances. You will need to take a shield as well.

Weapons and skills
The two weapons you will want for this build are the sword and shield and the axe:
Sword and shield: the quintessential tank weapons, with the skills Shield Strike, Shield Charge and Defiant Gaze. The first two will give you mobility and CC, while the last one is used to provoke the enemy.
Axe: it is a very strong melee weapon, and you will want to play it with Berserker, a skill to provoke in area and heal yourself. The other two that might interest you are Torrent of Wrath and Wild Charge.
Basically, you will rotate between the two weapons, although you will mainly use the Sword and Shield in dungeon to control enemies. This should be the most used build, although we will have to see if the Staff of Life becomes popular and we have an alternative version without the axe.
