New World’s systems are fairly straightforward, and combat is one of the basic foundations that must be mastered in order to progress at a good pace. The subject was already covered above in a basic guide, but it is important to know exactly how the system works.

Although on paper things seem simple, the reality is that this combat system is one of the most interesting that you can remember in an MMO. It’s not just about using skills, but there is also an important part of dodging and understanding offensive (and defensive) options.
All about New World’s combat system: tips and tricks
The basics among the basics of combat are very easy to understand: in melee weapons, we will block with right click and hit with left click (a click is a light attack, hold down is a strong attack). In the case of ranged weapons, we will not be able to block, changing the right click to aim.
Rolling is another important basic mechanic, and it is in our interest to completely dodge some attacks. Charged attacks can break the guard, so if you see that the enemy is preparing one you will have to roll.
The character’s skills are not linked to the character, but to the weapons he uses. Each weapon has two skill trees (6 skills available), of which you can equip 3. In addition, we can carry a total of two weapons (switching between them), with a total of 6 skills between the two weapons.

There are a total of 11 weapon types, each type having different attributes. In the end, the ideal will be to use weapons that scale well with the best attributes we have.
Weapons do not do a particular type of damage, but the move set will have several types of damage. These are the existing damage types in the game:
Slash
Lunge
Hit
Fire
Ice
Nature
Void
Lightning
Arcane

This attack in question would NOT be effective, as indicated by the blue color.
In the image above you can see an example of the color system of the game. This system allows us to know when our attacks are (or are not) effective against an opponent:
COLOR
DAMAGE EFFECTIVENESS
BLUE
Damage type is NOT effective
WHITE
Damage is neutral
YELLOW
Damage type is effective
ORANGE
Critical hit indicator (which has nothing to do with whether it is effective or not).

The game also features classic elements from other titles of the genre, such as buffs and debuffs (which will appear on the bar of the enemy affected by these changes) and aggro/threat (the player that the AI-controlled enemy attacks).
